~ The Benefits of a Sauna ~
The health benefits from a Sauna are abundant, ranging from positive effects on one's immune systems to weight loss, it's no wonder that Saunas are becoming more and more prevalent in the home. Although everyone is generally familiar with the stress and anxiety benefits of Saunas, more specific physical benefits are often overlooked. That is why The Water Quality Store would like to point out a few of the physical benefits we thought were worth noting when our customers are considering the purchase of a home Sauna.
Cardiovascular Health
A Sauna’s dry heat has a profound effect on the body with the circulatory system being one of the largest benefactors. Skin temperatures rise when using Saunas and blood flow is directed to the skin, in fact, your circulation system diverts blood from the internal organs and redirects it to the body’s extremities. This allows the heart to pump more blood through one's system without the strain of physical exertion.
Weight Loss
Studies have shown that frequent sauna use does indeed help in weight loss as the high temperature acts not only on the muscle tissue but also on the fatty tissues of the body. What a sauna actually does is help the body get rid of its excess salt through sweating. The heat forces the body to sweat out excess salt and toxins, thereby reduced your weight and detoxifying your system at the same time. A 30 minute sauna creates approximately the same amount of perspiration as a 10 k run and not surprisingly, a single sauna session will burn as many calories as you would during rowing for 30 minutes.
Muscle Recovery
The heat and warmth provided by your home sauna helps muscles become more flexible and improves their range of motion. The boost in ones circulation system also benefits sore muscles by delivering more oxygen-rich blood throughout the body, thus aiding the recovery of overworked, stiff and cramped muscles. Essentially, the heat generated by your home sauna allows the body to work more efficiently to naturally heal itself.
Detoxification
Today, studies show that most of us have between 400 and 800 chemical residues stored in the fat cells of our bodies. These chemicals and heavy metals make up our "total toxic burden." When our bodies exceed the limit that we can expel, we begin to store these toxins. Perspiration is recognized by health practitioners worldwide as perhaps the most effective method of removing both difficult chemical and heavy metal toxins from the body. With a home sauna one can enhance the body’s natural detoxification process to reduce one’s “toxic burden”.
Skin Care
Everyday beauty products such as creams, deodorants, make up, lotions and oils can clog skin pores and lock waste in. Dermatologists conclude that skin conditions like acne, pimples and blackheads can be caused by clogged and infected pores. Intense perspiration is an excellent way of deep cleaning your skin from the inside out. Dilated blood vessels increase the flow of oxygen and fluids to pores flushing dead skin cells and other pore clogging materials. Leaving behind skin that’s clean, fresh and healthy with improved tone, texture and color.
Boost Immune System
During a session in a Sauna, one’s body temperature
increases beyond the normal resting temperature of 98.6 degrees F. This increase in temperature creates an “artificial
fever” helping fight off bacteria and viral agents which cannot survive the
higher temperatures. This mimics the
body’s natural defense system and subsequently strengthens one’s immune system.
